Local SEO Services: Winning The Map, Not Just The Page
When someone searches for a trade in their city, the first thing they see is usually not a website. It is a map with three to five businesses pinned to it, their ratings, and a call button. Local SEO is the work that decides whether you are one of them.
First page rankings on the key phrases you approve, guaranteed.
The Map Is The First Thing Customers See
We captured six customer searches for Las Vegas trades on one afternoon in September. In every single one, the map block sat above the first ordinary result.
That matters more than it sounds, because the map is not fed by your website. It is fed by your Google Business Profile: a separate thing, with its own information, its own categories and its own reviews. A business can have a good site, ranking respectably in the ordinary results, and still be invisible in the place customers look first, because nobody has ever deliberately worked on the profile.
It is also the only one of the three kinds of search where the asset is not your site. An agency that only touches the website cannot move it.
What actually decides who appears
Four things, and only one of them is about your website.
Where the searcher is standing
Local results are weighted by distance, which is why two people searching the same words from different parts of a city get different maps. Nobody ranks first everywhere, and an agency promising you do is describing a screenshot from one location.
The profile itself
The categories you have chosen, the services listed on it, the hours, the photographs, the description, and whether any of it has been touched since it was created. Most profiles we take over were filled in once, by whoever set it up, and never again.
Reviews
How many, how recent, and what the replies say. In most local trades the star rating sits directly above every ordinary result on the page, so it is doing work before anyone reaches your site.
Whether your details agree across the web
Your name, address and phone number appear on directories, listings and old profiles all over the internet, often in three different versions. Contradiction there undermines the profile, and it is the least glamorous and most reliable work in local SEO.
What we do
All of it is in the same contract as the rest of the SEO, and none of it is billed separately.
Profile setup and management
Claiming it if it has never been claimed, correcting the categories, writing the services and the description, keeping hours accurate through holidays, and posting where posting earns something. A profile is maintained rather than launched.
Citations and consistency
Finding where your details appear, correcting the versions that disagree, and removing the duplicates. Tedious, unglamorous, and it moves things.
Reviews
Making the request part of how the business runs rather than something remembered occasionally, and replying to what arrives. We do not write reviews and we do not buy them.
The location content on your site
The pages a search engine reads to work out where you operate and what you do there. The profile and the site have to agree, and when they do not, the profile usually loses.
Some of page one is rented, and you cannot buy it back
In five of the six searches we captured, a directory held a place in the top ten; on the sixth we did not record the listings, so it is left out rather than assumed. Yelp appeared in all five, Angi in one of them. On "water heater repair las vegas", Yelp's list page carried 14,752 ratings, which is more than any single business in that city will ever have.
Those directories rank because they are large, old and updated constantly, and your competitors pay them monthly to sit near the top of their lists. It is worth being honest about what that means: nobody is going to remove Yelp from page one, and any agency implying otherwise is selling you something.
What can be done is take the places that are not for sale. The map block, which a directory cannot occupy, and the ordinary results a directory has not taken. That is a smaller page than the one most SEO pitches describe, and knowing its real size is the difference between a plan and a hope.
In a regulated trade, the profile has rules too
For licensed trades, what you can say is not only a marketing decision.
In Nevada, a licensed contractor's advertising must display the licence number, and the state contractors board names the website among the places that applies. A profile and a site that omit it are in breach rather than merely incomplete.
We check the rules for your trade in your state before writing a word of either, and we cite them on the page so you can check us. It is the part of this work most agencies never look at, and it is the one with consequences beyond a ranking.
How the guarantee applies here
The guarantee covers all three kinds of search, this one included. We propose the key phrases, you approve every one before work starts, and the contract covers up to half of them reaching the first page within six or twelve months depending on the agreement.
Said plainly: what counts as achieved is defined for the ordinary rankings, which are a position on a page. A map result is a different surface, and its position moves with the person searching. Ask us during the audit what the guarantee looks like for your market, and we will tell you in front of you rather than write a sentence here that sounds tidier than it is.
What this connects to
The profile and the site have to say the same thing, so the ordinary rankings and this work are one job rather than two. And the answers AI assistants give increasingly draw on the same business information, which means an accurate profile feeds a surface that did not exist five years ago.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does local SEO cost?
There is no fixed price list, and an agency with one is quoting before it has looked. It is not sold separately in any case: local, organic and AI search are one service here, and what your market takes depends on your domain, your existing citations and who is currently in the map. You get the number after the audit.
Do I need a shopfront customers can visit?
No. A business that travels to customers can define a service area instead, and the profile works differently but it still works. What you cannot do is invent an address, and a profile at a location that is not real is the fastest way to lose one.
What if I serve a whole metro rather than one neighbourhood?
Then distance is working against you at the edges, because results are weighted by where the searcher is standing. The honest approach is to be strongest where most of your customers are, and to use the ordinary rankings and the site to reach the rest.
How long before the map moves?
Faster than the ordinary rankings, usually. A profile that has never been worked on can change within weeks, because most of the early work is correcting things that are simply wrong. Reviews and citations take longer, and the contract's window applies either way.
Is local SEO worth it if I am not a local business?
Less of it, and the audit says how much. A company selling nationwide from one place puts its weight elsewhere, though the profile still matters to anyone checking that you are a real business before they call.
